Privacy Policy

beerfestival.co.nz is an editorial site with no accounts, no comments and no user-generated content. This page explains the limited data it does handle, how that data is handled and what your rights are.

The short version

The site does not collect names, email addresses or any account-linked personal data, because there are no accounts. Server logs record standard request details (IP address, user-agent, referrer and timestamp) for security and performance. Aggregate analytics may run for audience measurement, and some outbound links are affiliate links that pass an anonymous referral parameter to the destination. That is the full scope of data handling on this site.

Data collected in server logs

Every request produces a standard log entry with the IP address, requested URL, referrer, user-agent and timestamp. Logs are kept for a short window, typically 30 days, for security review, abuse detection and debugging. They are not sold, licensed or shared with anyone beyond the hosting provider.

Cookies

The site itself stores one value in your browser: the age-gate acknowledgement, kept in localStorage. It is not a tracking cookie, since it holds only the fact that you confirmed you are 18+, and clearing site data or switching browsers brings the gate back.

Third-party services used by the site, such as Google Fonts and any analytics or affiliate tools in use, may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies. Those cookies are not controlled by this site.

Third-party services

Google Fonts serves the Bricolage Grotesque, Instrument Sans and Space Mono typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Loading them sends a request to Google, which can see your IP address and user-agent, and Google's privacy practices apply to that request.

Analytics, where present, run in aggregate, non-identifying form under the vendor's own privacy notice. The site adds no personal identifiers to analytics data because it collects none.

Affiliate links to PolyBuzz or an alternative may carry a referral parameter so the destination can attribute the visit. That parameter contains no personal identifier, and once you arrive, the platform's own privacy policy applies: the PolyBuzz policy, for example, lists chat content, device identifiers and payment records among the data it collects.

What the site does not do

The site leaves out the usual data-collection features on purpose. None of the following exists here:

• No accounts, signup or login.
• No comments, user profiles or user-generated content of any kind.
• No email newsletter or marketing email collection.
• No cross-site tracking pixels beyond what an affiliate network may attach at the destination platform.
• No behavioural profile of individual visitors.

Retention

Server logs are kept for about 30 days and then deleted. The age-gate flag stays in your browser until you clear site data or switch browsers, and nothing else is retained because nothing else is collected.

Reader rights

Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the California CCPA and similar laws, you have rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over personal data a controller holds. Because this site holds no personal data tied to an identifiable person, most such requests have nothing to act on. Requests about data held by PolyBuzz go to the platform under its own privacy policy, while questions about server logs your IP address may appear in during the 30-day window can go to the editor through the channel below.

Children

The site is for adults only and does not target children. How the 18+ gate works is explained on the age verification page.

Changes to this policy

Substantive changes are dated on this page. When one happens, the schema dateModified is updated and, where the change materially affects readers, a plain-language summary goes into the editorial policy correction log.
